Hunting club members and their vehicles should be easy to identify. This hunting club requires all member-vehicles to display this decal.
These officers can be some of the best friends you can have, especially if your property is in a remote location. Ask them to check on the base camp or clubhouse during the off-season.
Have Club Members Well Identified
The larger the club the more you need to be able to identify each member and his vehicle. Regardless of club size, each club member should have a membership card on him at all times when on the club property. This allows law enforcement officers, the landowner, and unfamiliar club members to verify that he is a member. Many members have a club patch sewn on a hat or hunting coat so that they can be identified as a club member at a distance.
All vehicles used on the club property should have a decal, bumper sticker, or cardboard pass on the dashboard so that it is obvious that the vehicle belongs to a club member. Many clubs that use ATVs, boats, or other type of vehicles require that some form of ID be attached to the vehicle. Some clubs require that stands or blinds have a club ID so that a poacher’s blind can be identified easily.
Handling Poachers and Trespassers
Poachers, trespassers, and general wildlife criminals not only spoil the hunt for honest hunters but also can pose a physical threat when confronted or seen. During my years in wildlife law enforcement, I have seen these people threaten bodily harm, both out of disregard for their fellow man as well as fear. One can be as deadly as the other.
